Pune’s Baba Bhide Bridge has been reopened for 20 days to ease Ganeshotsav traffic congestion.
The bridge, under construction for a pedestrian pathway by Maha Metro, had been closed, causing inconvenience.
Authorities decided to temporarily allow two-wheelers until the festival ends.
Pune, 18 August 2025: Pune’s Baba Bhide Bridge, a crucial connector between the city’s western suburbs and central areas, has been reopened for 20 days to ease traffic during the upcoming Ganeshotsav.
The bridge had been shut due to ongoing construction work by Maha Metro, which is building a pedestrian walkway as part of the metro project between Sadashiv Peth and Deccan station. Its closure had caused heavy inconvenience for daily commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders who rely on the bridge to avoid traffic jams in central Pune.
Following instructions from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Maha Metro has decided to reopen the bridge temporarily from August 20. Officials said the move was aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing congestion in the city’s crowded core areas during the festival season.
The bridge will remain open for two-wheelers until the end of Ganeshotsav celebrations, after which construction work is expected to resume.
