India’s first ADAS Test City has been set up by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) near Talegaon, Pune, at Takwe.
Built on 20 acres, this artificial city replicates Indian road conditions to safely test advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
A special event, the “ADAS Show,” will be held on December 12 to showcase the facility to government officials, auto experts, and industry leaders.
Pune, 4th September 2025: The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has announced the creation of the country’s first ADAS Test City, a major milestone for the Indian automobile sector. The facility has been set up at Takwe, near Talegaon on the outskirts of Pune.
Spread across 20 acres, the test city is designed as a miniature version of an Indian urban environment, complete with replicas of roads and traffic conditions. This setup allows automobile companies to test advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) in a controlled yet realistic setting.
ARAI Director Dr. Reji Mathai said the project would enable safe evaluation of ADAS technology under traffic scenarios unique to India. “This facility marks a significant step for vehicle testing and road safety in the country,” he said in plain terms.
The test city will support experiments with technologies such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alerts, blind-spot detection, driver monitoring, pedestrian detection, and traffic sign recognition. These systems use sensors, cameras, and radar to help reduce accidents and improve safety for both drivers and passengers.
To showcase the new infrastructure, ARAI will organize the ADAS Show on December 12, in association with Ayera. The event will feature live demonstrations of the facility. Senior government officials, experts from leading car manufacturers, and industry representatives are expected to attend.
At the press briefing, ARAI officials Ujjwala Karle and Vijay Pankhawala were present along with BMW’s Chief Delivery Officer Amit Vardhamane, Ayera Director Nabeel Ahmed, and Starkenn CEO Sandeep Agarwal.
This initiative positions Pune at the centre of India’s push toward safer, smarter, and technology-driven mobility solutions.
