Pune, 25 August 2025: The Bundgarden police have filed a case against ‘Kiki’ pub in the Raja Bahadur Mill area for organizing a freshers’ party without permission on August 23. The event was held for college students even though police had already instructed pub and hotel owners to take prior approval before such gatherings.
Police constable Amit Badhe lodged the complaint. According to officials, organizers Nikhil Prakash Surve from Mumbai, Rohan Ramesh Sawant from Kharadi, Upendra Sanjay Juvekar from Somwar Peth, and Sudarshan Phatake from Pune were booked in the case. Around 100 to 150 students were reportedly invited to the party.
When police learned about the unauthorized event, the state excise department was also alerted and its officers reached the venue. Officials said no prior information had been shared with them about serving liquor at the party.
This is not the first such case in Pune. A few days ago, a similar freshers’ party was organized at a pub in Mundhwa, where alcohol was served to students. The incident created disturbances in the area and led to strict action from authorities.
In response, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has warned that licenses of pubs, hotels, and event companies will be cancelled if they host unauthorized liquor parties for students. He also directed all pubs and bars in the city to check the age of youngsters through DigiLocker documents before granting entry.
