
Pune, 5th June 2025: The Water Resources Department recorded rainfall in the catchment area of all four dams of the Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project, which supplies water to the city, on Wednesday. However, storage has not yet started in the dams, and the total water storage in all four dams is 5.54 billion cubic feet (TMC).
The city is supplied with water from all four dams - Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar. Along with the city and its surroundings, rain started falling in the catchment areas of all four dams on Wednesday.
18 mm of rain was recorded in the Khadakwasla dam area till 5 pm on Wednesday, 13 mm in the catchment area of Panshet dam, 14 mm in the Varasgaon dam area, and 9 mm in the catchment area of Temghar dam.
The water storage in all these four dams is 5.54 TMC, and the dams are 19 percent full. Last year, the dams had 4.69 TMC of water storage on the same day. Accordingly, this year, the water storage is 0.85 TMC more, according to the Water Resources Department.
These dams provide water to Pune for the whole year. This year rain is expected to be above average.
