Pune: A tragic accident in the Wagholi area of Pune claimed the life of a 58-year-old pedestrian, Indrajit Nivrutti Sarde, after he was struck by a speeding dumper. The incident occurred on Nagar Road on the evening of Thursday (December 12).

Sarde, a resident of Ubale Nagar in Wagholi, was returning home after delivering milk to a residential society when the dumper hit him. The impact left him critically injured, and he succumbed to his injuries before medical assistance could be provided.

The dumper driver, identified as 24-year-old Raju Pandu Chavan, a resident of Suyognagar, Bhavdi Road, Wagholi, fled the scene after the accident. A case has been filed against him at the Wagholi Police Station based on a complaint lodged by the victim's son, Samadhan Sarde.

Police Sub-Inspector Manoj Bagal is leading the investigation into the case. The accused driver has been charged with reckless driving causing death and fleeing the scene. Authorities are working to apprehend him.

The Nagar Road area, including Wagholi, has seen a surge in serious accidents, raising concerns over traffic management and pedestrian safety. Local residents have called for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and speed limits to prevent such incidents.

Recently, Sirichandana Vishwanath Hewattam, a 32-year-old woman, had lost her life after a speeding dumper struck the two-wheeler she was riding with her husband. The accident took place on the Pune-Nagar Highway near Chitale Sweet Home around 9:45 AM on October 6.
