Pune, 26 August 2025: This year, Pune Police are adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to handle the massive crowds expected during Ganeshotsav. With lakhs of devotees visiting pandals and taking part in the immersion processions, technology will be used to make crowd control, traffic management, and safety more effective.
Surveillance cameras across public spaces will be connected to a central control room. An AI-based video analysis system will track unusual activity such as sudden gatherings, fights, or suspicious movements and immediately alert the police. Authorities will also use digital public messaging systems to issue real-time updates and instructions to citizens in busy areas.
For traffic management, AI will help monitor congestion on major routes and suggest alternative roads. CCTV feeds, along with drones and mobile surveillance vehicles, will provide ground and aerial monitoring of crowded spots. Police patrols and vehicles will be equipped with GPS trackers, ensuring that the nearest team can be dispatched quickly during emergencies.
In addition, an “anti-drone gun” will be used to disable any unauthorized or suspicious drones flying over festival zones. Police units will also rely on wireless sets to maintain coordination during the festival rush.
Pune Police believe that these technology-driven measures will allow the Ganesh festival to take place in a secure, disciplined, and peaceful atmosphere.
