Pune: In a significant development in the Pune Porsche accident case, the Pune Police have submitted a proposal to the Director General of Police (DGP) office recommending the dismissal of two officers—Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Inspector Vishwas Todkari—for dereliction of duty.
Both officers were earlier suspended on May 24, 2024 after an initial probe found them responsible for negligence in handling the case. The suspension followed allegations of attempts to shield the minor accused in the high-profile case that had drawn widespread attention.
The tragic accident occurred on May 19, 2024 at midnight in Kalyani Nagar, when the minor son of a wealthy businessman, allegedly intoxicated, was driving a high-speed Porsche. He rammed into a motorcycle carrying two young engineers, leading to their deaths.
The case sparked public outrage due to:
Alleged political interference and police misconduct
An unusual bail condition, where the minor was initially asked to write a 300-word essay on road safety instead of facing strict legal consequences
The involvement of the minor’s parents and medical staff from Sassoon Hospital, who allegedly manipulated medical reports
Departmental Action Against Officers
Following the public backlash, senior officers conducted a high-level inquiry and found Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Inspector Vishwas Todkari guilty of negligence. Subsequently, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar ordered their suspension.
Now that the departmental investigation is complete, both officers have been found guilty, and the police department has formally recommended their dismissal.
Legal Developments and Fast-Track Court Efforts
Pune Police have registered three separate FIRs regarding the incident and arrested ten individuals, including the minor’s parents and two doctors from Sassoon Hospital. All accused remain in custody, as no bail has been granted. To ensure swift justice, Pune Police are actively working to move the case to a fast-track court.
