Pune, 21 August 2025: Pune Police have successfully returned 38 stolen and missing mobile phones worth nearly ₹12.5 lakh to their rightful owners. The recovery was made possible with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system of the Union Ministry of Telecommunications.
The handover took place under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishikesh Rawle. He appreciated the efforts of the police teams who tracked the devices across different districts of Maharashtra and even in other states.
In one operation, Samarth Police identified and traced 12 expensive smartphones valued at around ₹8 lakh. The team prepared a detailed list of stolen phones and used CEIR technology to follow digital footprints, eventually recovering them with the help of local police in different regions.
Meanwhile, the Deccan Police traced and retrieved 26 phones worth ₹4.5 lakh. These phones were either stolen or lost in crowded areas of the city. After verifying complaints, the police used CEIR data to pinpoint the devices and return them to their owners.
Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Rajesh Bansode and Assistant Commissioners Anuja Deshmane and Sainath Thombre, guided the operations. The recovered phones were officially handed back to citizens in a small ceremony at the police station.
