Pune: Samarth Police successfully recovered a three-tola gold mangalsutra belonging to a 66-year-old woman. The elderly woman had lost her necklace during a rickshaw journey, but thanks to the police’s prompt investigation using CCTV footage, the valuable ornament was tracked down and returned.
The incident took place when Radha Ashok Ankam, a resident of the Kondhwa area, traveled by rickshaw from Phadke Haud Chowk in Kasba Peth to MSEDCL (Power House) Chowk in Rasta Peth. Upon reaching her destination, she realized that her three-tola gold mangalsutra was missing. Distressed, she promptly visited the Samarth Police Station to lodge a complaint.
Senior Police Inspector Umesh Gitte, in charge of the station, assured Ankam of swift action and instructed his team to begin the search. Sub-Inspector Jalindar Fadtare led the investigation team, meticulously reviewing CCTV footage along the rickshaw’s route.
During the analysis, the police identified the rickshaw’s registration number. Upon further investigation, the driver was identified as Bhima Ramesh Bhojey, originally from Gujarat. While cleaning his rickshaw, Bhojey found the gold mangalsutra and handed it over to his relative, Bharat Solanki, residing in Nigdi.
On learning about the police inquiry, Solanki visited the Samarth Police Station on Saturday (March 22) and returned the mangalsutra. Following verification, the police contacted Ankam and reunited her with the necklace.
A visibly relieved Ankam expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the police for their prompt response and efficient investigation. Senior Inspector Gitte praised the dedicated efforts of the officers involved in the case.
