Pune: In a significant step towards improving passenger convenience, Pune Railway Station will no longer face waterlogging issues during the monsoon. The railway administration has implemented an advanced ₹3 crore ‘Micro Tunneling’ project to ensure efficient drainage of rainwater, keeping platforms dry even during heavy rainfall.
Permanent Solution to Monsoon Waterlogging
Last year, heavy monsoon rains caused severe waterlogging on Platform 1, disrupting passenger movement. Responding to the issue, then Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Indu Dubey instructed the engineering team to develop a long-term solution. This led to the implementation of micro tunneling technology, which is now in its final phase of completion.
How the System Works
Pipelines have been installed at a depth of three meters beneath the tracks and are connected to the main sewage system behind the station.
The system includes 90-meter-long and 1.2-meter-wide pipelines, ensuring the efficient drainage of rainwater without flooding platforms.

No Major Excavation: The tunnel is created without large-scale digging, minimizing disruption.

Dr. Milind Hirve, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Pune said, "Previously, heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging at the station, causing difficulties for passengers. With this new drainage system, Pune Railway Station will remain clean and free from water accumulation, ensuring passenger comfort during the monsoon."
