Pune: Five months after Pimpri-Chinchwad Police arrested two Rohingya families from Myanmar for illegal residence in India, investigations revealed that one of the families had constructed a house in Dehu Road. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police had initiated action against the individuals on July 27, 2024.
The ATS apprehended Muzammil Mohammad Amin Khan (43) and Shahid alias Sohidul Sheikh (35), along with their wives, for residing in India without legal authorization.
The police registered a case at Dehu Road Police Station and seized mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, Bangladeshi currency, and Indian passports from the accused.
Investigations revealed that Muzammil Khan, originally from Myanmar, had migrated to Bangladesh with his wife and two daughters before entering India through West Bengal. He eventually reached Pune by train and found employment at a company in Talegaon MIDC.
Later, he began selling children's clothes in Dehu Road and subsequently switched to selling betel nuts.
Khan reportedly purchased land worth ₹80,000 in Gandhinagar, Dehu Road, without any legal documentation and built a house. He also obtained Aadhaar cards for himself and his wife from a shop in Bhiwandi for ₹500 each and later acquired an Indian passport.
Meanwhile, Shahid Sheikh was residing in a rented room in Dehu Road. The court granted bail to the accused after their arrest, and the matter remains under judicial review. The police have written to the passport authorities to cancel the passports of the accused.
Assistant Police Inspector Vikas Raut of the ATS stated, "The accused are currently out on bail and cannot leave India until the legal process is completed as per court orders. If found guilty, they will serve their sentence, after which judicial directives will determine their deportation."
