Pune: In line with the Vehicle Scrappage Policy, 1,265 government vehicles in Pune city and district that have completed 15 years of service will be scrapped by December 31, 2024.
The initiative, which is conducted annually, aims to phase out outdated vehicles and streamline the use of government resources.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale announced that a dedicated cell will be established at the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) to facilitate a swift and efficient scrapping process.
The Vehicle Scrappage Policy, approved in January 2021, mandates the disposal of vehicles owned by central and state government departments that exceed 15 years of age.
A dedicated portal has been set up for the registration of vehicles to be scrapped, and all concerned departments are required to upload the details of eligible vehicles.
Based on these submissions, the scrapping process is carried out. This year, the Pune city and district offices account for 1,265 vehicles identified for scrapping.
To support departments with larger volumes of vehicles, login IDs for the MSTC portal will be provided. This measure aims to ensure greater efficiency in managing the scrapping process.
