Pune: Surmai Prices Plunge, Prawns and Pomfret Rise in Fish Market

Pune: Fish lovers in Pune witnessed a significant drop in Surmai (Kingfish) prices, while the prices of prawns, pomfret, and Bombay duck have increased by 10%.

On Sunday, Dec 1, the Ganesh Peth fish market recorded an inflow of 20-25 tons of deep-sea fish, 200-400 kilograms of creek fish, and 700-800 kilograms of river fish. Additionally, about 20-25 tons of Rahu, Katla, and Silon fish were imported from Andhra Pradesh.

Fish Prices (Per Kilogram)

Deep-Sea Fish

  • Pomfret: ₹850-2000 (size-dependent)

  • Surmai (Kingfish): ₹400-650

  • Rawas: ₹600-1000

  • Bombay Duck: ₹160-240

  • Prawns: ₹180-1500 (based on size)

  • Lobster: ₹1800-2000

Creek and River Fish

  • Creek fish: Prices range from ₹120 to ₹700 depending on the type.

  • River fish: Rahu and Katla are priced at ₹140-200, while Maral fetches ₹450-500.

Pune: Eggs Become Costlier, Chicken and Surmai Prices Drop

In addition to fish, mutton and chicken prices remained steady at ₹780 and ₹220 per kilogram, respectively, while desi eggs were priced at ₹980 per 100.

Fish market officials attributed the price variations to fluctuating supply levels and the seasonality of certain varieties.
