Pune, 18 August 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has gone beyond the state government’s target of planting 10,100 saplings by September-end, successfully planting 11,620 across the city under the Harit Maharashtra, Samruddha Maharashtra campaign.
The plantation drive was carried out at 13 different sites in collaboration with the roads department. Large-scale plantations were undertaken at Dhanori’s Bombay Sappers campus (3,500 saplings), Viman Nagar’s Agnibaz division (3,000), and Ghorpadi’s Southern Command headquarters (1,000).
Apart from these major sites, tree plantation was also carried out on several city roads, including BT Kawade Road, Passport Office Road, North Main Road, Bund Garden Road, Boat Club Road, Balewadi, and areas around Savitribai Phule Pune University, bringing the total to over 11,600.
PMC focused on planting native and eco-friendly species such as neem, kadamba, jamun, tamhan, mango, peepal, banyan, bahava, bakul, and arjun. Officials said the drive would help increase green cover and contribute to cleaner air and improved biodiversity in Pune.
