Pune: The lawyers at the District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar, Pune, have finally been allocated a designated space to eat their meals, resolving a long-standing demand. The newly constructed Tiffin Hall, located on the terrace of the court's new building, was inaugurated on Thursday by Principal District Judge Mahendra Mahajan.

This development comes after repeated demands from lawyers and members of the Pune Bar Association. Earlier, the demolition of the Agarwal Canteen, as part of the court's expansion, had left lawyers and litigants without adequate space for meals. Out of the three existing canteens, two were demolished, causing significant inconvenience.

In response to the lack of space, the lawyers staged protests, including one instance where they symbolically ate their meals on the road outside the new building. They submitted multiple complaints to the Pune Bar Association, requesting a resolution.

Following persistent appeals, the Pune Bar Association submitted a formal request to the Chief District Judge, seeking space for a tiffin room. The court administration pursued the matter with the Bombay High Court, which granted permission to construct the Tiffin Hall.

The inauguration of the Tiffin Hall was attended by key members of the Pune Bar Association, including President Santosh Khamkar, Vice President Kumar Paigude, Secretary Chetan Harpale, and other officials. Snacks and meals were served at the inauguration to mark the beginning of the facility's use.

The hall is expected to provide much-needed relief to lawyers, ensuring they have a convenient space to eat during their busy schedules at the court premises.
