24,000 staff will be deployed for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections scheduled in January.
New ward structure covers 32 merged villages, final notification expected by October 6.
Number of polling stations may rise to 4,490 to accommodate new voters.
Pune, 18 September 2025: Preparations for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections have gathered pace with the civic administration set to mobilize nearly 24,000 employees for the smooth conduct of the polls scheduled in January.
The election will be held under a newly drafted ward structure, which includes 32 merged villages along with the existing city limits. The final notification of the 41-ward layout is expected by October 6, paving the way for the election of 165 corporators.
To manage the massive exercise, the administration has already compiled details of 19,000 staff members and is coordinating with various government departments to fill the remaining positions. Around 17 election officers and an equal number of assistant officers have been requested from the Divisional Commissioner’s office to oversee operations.
The number of polling stations, which stood at 3,431 during the recent Assembly elections, is likely to increase to around 4,490 due to fresh voter registrations and the need for additional booths. Field officials have been appointed as coordinators to inspect proposed centres and submit reports before final approval.
Given Pune’s expanding city limits and voter base, the administration expects employees from all government departments to be assigned election duties to ensure a seamless process.
