Pune: The construction of the double flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, part of the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro project, is progressing at full speed. MLA Siddharth Shirole announced on Saturday (January 18) that the flyover connecting Aundh to Ganeshkhind Road will be opened for vehicular traffic in the first week of April 2025. Another segment of the flyover, connecting Ganeshkhind Road to Baner and Pashan, is expected to be operational by June 15, 2025.
Shirole revealed that while the ongoing construction has caused significant inconvenience for commuters, measures taken by traffic police have ensured that traffic congestion has been kept to a minimum. The MLA has been actively working for the past two years to expedite the project’s completion.
The first phase of the flyover, including ramps for Aundh and Ganeshkhind, is set to be completed by early April, enabling vehicles to travel smoothly between these areas. Land acquisition for the ramp on Baner Road has been completed, and work is expected to begin soon, with a target to finish within five months. Vehicles will then be able to travel in both directions from the Baner side.
The Pashan side of the flyover, however, faces minor land acquisition challenges, which are expected to be resolved within two weeks following discussions with the municipal corporation and other stakeholders. Once this segment is completed, vehicles can travel from Ganeshkhind Road to Pashan seamlessly. The overall plan is to have both ramps operational by June 2024, easing traffic congestion in and around the University Chowk area.
Shirole emphasized that the completion of this project will provide significant relief to commuters, especially as traffic density in the area continues to increase.
During the site inspection, Shirole was joined by PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, officials from Tata (handling the Metro construction), and senior traffic police officers, including Deputy Commissioner Amol Zende, Assistant Commissioner Nanda Vagyani, and Police Inspectors Minal Patil, Sunil Gawali, and Narendra Mundhe.
