
Pune: Yerawada Central Prison and Yerawada Women’s Prison have implemented advanced security systems as part of the 2023–24 prison modernization plan. The systems include Full-Height Turnstile Gates (Biometric Access System), Panic Alarm System, and Public Addressing System.
The project, executed by Invader Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Gurugram, Haryana, aims to enhance security, safety, and operational efficiency within the prisons.
The systems were inaugurated on December 17, 2024, by Dr. Jalindar Supekar (IPS), Special Inspector General of Police (Prisons), Maharashtra State. The event was attended by senior officials, including Prashant Burde (IPS), Additional Director General and Inspector General of Prisons, and Swati Sathe, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Western Region.
Highlights of the New Security Systems:
Full-Height Turnstile Gates (Biometric Access System):
Regulates entry and exit, ensuring only authorized personnel have access.
Tracks the movements of staff, visitors, and inmates, reducing unauthorized activities.
Facilitates efficient visitor management, enhancing security during busy times like roll calls.
Integrates with biometric and surveillance systems for comprehensive monitoring.
Panic Alarm System:
Enables immediate response to emergencies like riots, violence, or medical crises.
Alerts staff during security threats, helping prevent inmate escapes or other disruptions.
Provides silent alerts to officers, maintaining discretion during sensitive situations.
Public Addressing System:
Facilitates effective communication within the prison for announcements, schedules, and emergency notifications.
Helps manage inmate behavior and ensures quick dissemination of critical information during crises such as fires or riots.
Senior prison officials, including additional superintendent Pallavi Kadam, deputy superintendent Dr. B. N. Dhole, and other staff, along with representatives from Invader Technologies, were present at the inauguration.
Dr. Supekar highlighted that these systems will eventually be implemented across all prisons in Maharashtra to ensure uniform safety standards and efficient operations.
