Pune: A young man from Pimpri was brutally assaulted and robbed by four individuals near Sangam Bridge. The accused used a dating app to lure the victim under the pretext of a meeting. A case has been registered at Bund Garden Police Station, and the police are currently investigating the matter.
According to the complaint, the victim came into contact with the accused, identified as Shahrukh Top, through a mobile application. The accused invited him to meet at RTO Chowk in Mangalwar Peth on March 18. Upon his arrival, the victim was led to an isolated spot near the railway tracks, where he was ambushed by Shahrukh and three others.
The accused threatened the young man and demanded money. When he resisted, they physically assaulted him, forcibly taking the cash he had with him. Despite complying, the attackers demanded more money. Before fleeing, they tampered with the victim’s phone by formatting it to erase any evidence.
Following the traumatic incident, the victim approached the Bund Garden Police Station and filed a formal complaint. Assistant Police Inspector Swapnil Lohar has taken charge of the investigation.
Police sources revealed that this is not an isolated case. In the last two months, five to six similar incidents have occurred in Pune, with criminals using the same app to target unsuspecting victims.
Earlier, a businessman in Dhayari was threatened and robbed by a gang using a similar tactic. In another case, a software engineer from Magarpatta City was also assaulted and looted.
