
Pune police have registered a case against a 22-year-old man for causing a disturbance and using abusive language against officers at the Shaniwar Peth police chowky (outpost). The incident occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
According to the police, the accused, a resident of Narayan Peth, was involved in a road accident near Omkareshwar Temple around 1 a.m. While riding his two-wheeler at high speed, he collided with a female motorcyclist, causing damage to her vehicle.
The woman immediately alerted the police, and officers on duty apprehended the young man. He was brought to the Shaniwar Peth police outpost for further questioning. However, the situation escalated when the accused began creating a commotion at the outpost.
He allegedly used abusive language towards the complainant and police officers, including Constables Prasad Thakur and Inamdar. The accused also pushed and manhandled the officers, disrupting their work.
A case has been registered against the young man under charges of obstructing government work and misconduct. The investigation is being led by Police Sub-Inspector Supriya Pandharkar.
On New Year’s Eve, the Pune Police had launched an extensive campaign to curb traffic violations and ensure public safety. As part of the operation, action was taken against 85 individuals for drunk driving, and a total of 2,633 motorists were penalized for various traffic violations, resulting in the collection of fines amounting to ₹20 lakh.
