Pune: The Purandar International Airport project will not be halted and will move forward as planned, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured.
Speaking at an event in Chikhali, he confirmed that the land acquisition proposal for the airport has already been sent to the state government and will be approved immediately. Compensation rates will be decided fairly, ensuring no financial loss to the affected landowners.
Fadnavis emphasized that the Purandar Airport will play a crucial role in Pune's economic growth, stating, "This project will accelerate Pune’s development fourfold. While the Lohegaon Airport has undergone expansion, it remains an important operational hub for the Indian Air Force. Since national security operations take place year-round, commercial aviation faces restrictions. Without a new international airport, Pune cannot fully establish itself as a global city."
The Chief Minister assured that land acquisition would be conducted fairly, stating, "All landowners will receive appropriate compensation, and no one will suffer losses. This will not just be an airport; it will also serve as a major cargo hub, fueling industrialization, international trade, and economic growth. Additionally, the airport will create significant employment opportunities for local youth."
Highlighting Pune's importance in Maharashtra’s economic landscape, Fadnavis added, "Maharashtra is leading India's development, and Pune is the engine driving this growth. The completion of Purandar Airport will further strengthen Pune's position as a major economic and industrial hub."
