Pune, 20 August 2025: As the monsoon gathers pace in Pune, citizens are once again struggling with pothole-ridden roads. Over the past two days of rain, streets across the city have developed new craters, adding to the woes of commuters and forcing the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to intensify its response.

According to PMC officials, more than 350 pothole complaints have been filed so far on the Road Mitra mobile app, launched to streamline grievances. The civic body claims that 285 of these potholes have already been repaired. However, residents say the situation on the ground tells a different story. Many areas remain unsafe, with loose gravel and stagnant water making it difficult for two-wheeler riders in particular.

Several major stretches including Katraj–Kondhwa Road, Manikbag, Rajas Society Chowk, Dhayari Phata Road, DSK Vishva Road, Narhe, Warje, and parts of the 32 merged villages are severely affected. Even newly patched roads are giving way, as rainwater seeps in and weakens the surface.

Citizens are also dissatisfied with the Road Mitra app itself. While over 5,000 downloads have been recorded, users complain that uploading photos and sharing live locations often fails, making it difficult to lodge proper complaints.

Many residents point out that the civic body had about two weeks of dry weather earlier this month to complete repairs, but the work moved at a slow pace. With the rains now back in full swing, the problem has multiplied. For now, the administration insists it is working round-the-clock to address complaints, but citizens say potholes continue to be a daily hazard.
