On Saturday, Rohini Acharya, the daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, declared her departure from politics and her decision to sever ties with her family. In her social media announcement, she mentioned two individuals, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez.
Following a disappointing performance in the Bihar assembly elections, Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD president Lalu Prasad, declared on Saturday that she was 'leaving politics' and cutting ties with her family.
Rohini Acharya announced on X on Saturday that she is leaving politics and ending a relationship with her family.
She added in the post that this is what “Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked” her “to do”.
"…and I am taking all the blame," she wrote in her post.
Who are Sanjay Yadav and Rameez?
Sanjay Yadav serves as a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament representing the RJD and is considered a highly trusted associate of Tejashwi Yadav, the son and likely successor of RJD leader Lalu Prasad. According to the PTI news agency, Rameez is described as an old friend of Tejashwi, originating from a political family in the nearby state of Uttar Pradesh.
Rohini Acharya's post did not specify what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had said to her, and neither of them were available for comment. Rohini Acharya, who gained attention for donating a kidney to her father several years ago, ran unsuccessfully in the Lok Sabha elections from Saran last year.
Her statement follows the defeat of the RJD and Congress-led Mahagathbandhan in the Bihar assembly elections, where they secured only 35 out of 243 seats against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprised of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JD(U), which won 202 seats.
In May of this year, Lalu Yadav dismissed his eldest son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the RJD for a period of six years and disowned him from the family. This action followed an incident where Tej Pratap Yadav appeared on his Facebook page with a woman described as his 'partner' in the caption. There were rumors that Rohini Acharya was displeased with the decision to expel Tej Pratap Yadav.
