Pune: A tragic domestic dispute over attending a relative’s wedding ended in the brutal murder of a 27-year-old woman in Shirur, Pune district. The accused husband tied his wife’s hands and feet before strangling her and is now on the run.
The victim has been identified as Meenabai Dnyaneshwar Gangurde (27), a resident of Varude Road, Ganegaon Khalsa. The Ranjangaon MIDC Police have registered a murder case against her husband, Dnyaneshwar Atmaram Gangurde, following a complaint filed by her brother, Tarachand Sukhlal More.
The Gangurde family, originally from Chalisgaon Taluka, Jalgaon district, had settled in Ganegaon, where they lived in a hut on a farm owned by Subhash Babu Kale.
On the evening of February 11, a heated argument erupted between Dnyaneshwar and Meenabai after she refused to attend a relative’s wedding. Enraged by her decision, Dnyaneshwar allegedly attacked his wife later that night, tied her hands and feet, and strangled her to death.
Meenabai’s brother Tarachand lived nearby. On the morning of February 12, neighbors noticed Dnyaneshwar leaving the house early. However, when Meenabai did not step out for a long time, her brother went to check on her.
To his horror, he found her lifeless body inside the house, with her hands and feet tied with a rope. He immediately informed the police, who rushed to the spot. The accused, Dnyaneshwar Gangurde, is currently absconding, and police teams are actively searching for him.
