Pune: As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approach and the number of party defectors continues to grow, the senior leadership of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has decided to focus on strengthening its presence in Pune.
In light of these developments, party chief Uddhav Thackeray is set to visit Pune for a two-day tour to assess the party’s standing and discuss strategies with local leaders.
To organize Thackeray's visit, a meeting of senior party officials and corporators from Pune has been called today (February 3). According to Shiv Sena UBT Pune City Chief Sanjay More, Uddhav Thackeray will not only visit some party "Shakha" but will also meet with several prominent personalities in Pune.
Shiv Sena (UBT) faced a major setback in the recent Assembly elections, where it contested eight seats in Pune but failed to win any. Adding to the party’s woes, five corporators switched allegiance to the BJP soon after.
Further deepening the crisis, former MLA Mahadev Babar recently met with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, sparking speculation about his potential defection. Moreover, several women office bearers have also resigned from the party.
Urgent Appeal for Leadership’s Attention
With municipal elections nearing and defections increasing, concerns have escalated among local party leaders. In response, two days ago, a delegation led by Pune city chief Sanjay More, along with corporators and other office bearers, visited Matoshree and personally requested Uddhav Thackeray to shift his attention towards Pune and its political developments.
Thackeray’s upcoming visit is expected to play a crucial role in reorganizing the party’s strategy and addressing the challenges in Pune.
