Pune, 5th June 2025: The administration took decisive action against encroachments that were hampering the historical glory of Sinhagad, and the seven-day-long campaign came to a successful end on Wednesday evening.

Through the joint efforts of the District Collector, Forest, Archaeology, Revenue and Zilla Parishad departments, unauthorized constructions on government as well as private land have been removed, and a decisive step has been taken in a positive direction for the preservation and conservation of Sinhagad.

The state government had decided to remove encroachments on all forts and forts in the state before 31 May.

Accordingly, there was a large-scale encroachment only on Sinhagad in the district. Taking serious note of this, District Collector Dudi himself took the initiative. A committee was formed under the leadership of Dr. Yashwant Mane to remove the encroachments.

Before taking action, notices were given to the concerned and their sides were heard. The permits and documents were also checked transparently.

Sinhagad is not only a historical fort, but is also considered a holy place due to the sacrifice of Narveer Tanaji Malusare and the tomb of Shivaputra Rajaram Maharaj. Being close to the city, it is a place where tourists flock throughout the year. Tourists are attracted here due to the pleasant weather, scenic surroundings and local food culture.

The encroachment action is not limited to the removal of constructions, but will be an important step in the preservation and historical conservation of Sinhagad. In the future, the fort will become a more beautiful, eco-friendly, plastic-free and historical tourist destination. This is the expectation expressed by environmentalists and tourists.

This action was carried out under the of District Collector Dr. Jitendra Dudi through the joint efforts of Forest, Archaeology, Revenue, Zilla Parishad and Public Works Department.

In this, unauthorized stalls, and unbuilt constructions on government and private lands were removed. Encroachments on more than 10 thousand square feet of land were removed in these seven days.

This is the initial estimate. This major action was taken on the forts. Currently, there is a large amount of debris on the fort, the work of removing it will continue. Meanwhile, from tomorrow, Thursday, the fort will be open for tourists.
