Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has submitted a proposal to the state government for the rehabilitation of 1,383 residential units and 67 shops in Ektanagari on Sinhagad Road.
This move follows the devastating floods caused by heavy rainfall in the Khadakwasla Dam catchment area on July 25, which led to the overflowing of the Mutha River and inundation of the locality.
A PMC survey revealed that 103 buildings in Ektanagari were located within the blue and red floodlines. These include a total residential area of 87,399 square meters and a commercial area of 1,340 square meters.
The state government had previously announced the rehabilitation of structures within the blue floodline. In line with this decision, the PMC has identified its land behind the proposed Sinhagad Road Police Station in Vitthalwadi (Hingne Khurd) as the site for the rehabilitation project.
The rehabilitation plan will adopt a cluster scheme approach, similar to the one implemented by the state government in Thane. Under this scheme, clusters can be developed on land parcels exceeding two hectares, particularly in less densely populated areas.
Speaking with mediapersons, PMC officials stated that the administration is actively exploring funding options to meet the ₹698 crore required for the project.
The initiative aims to provide a permanent solution to the flood risks faced by residents in the affected area.
The proposal for the rehabilitation of structures within the floodline has been sent to the state government. The designated land for this project is behind the proposed Sinhagad Road Police Station.
