Pune: A tragic accident on the Nira-Morgaon road in Pune district led to the death of a 16-year-old boy after he was run over by a speeding Eicher tempo.
The incident took place near Jagtapvasti at the Nira Left Canal turn, resulting in the boy's instant death. The deceased, identified as Ijaz Khurshid Syed, was a resident of Pokale Vasti in Nira.
The accident sparked outrage among local residents, who, in a fit of anger, set the tempo on fire, causing a brief period of tension in the area.
The situation was brought under control after Vadgaon police arrived at the scene and dispersed the mob. Firefighters from the Jubilant Fire Brigade in Nira managed to extinguish the flames.
The tempo driver fled the scene and is currently being pursued by the police.
Recently, a motorcyclist was killed in a tragic hit-and-run accident on the old Old Mumbai-Pune road in the Bopodi area on August 17 evening. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Ramesh Bugya Lawudya, a resident of Shastrinagar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, was struck by a speeding vehicle in front of Gopi Chawl. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Earlier in June month, a speeding water tanker, driven by a 16-year-old boy, hit a bike on NIBM Road in Kondhwa injuring two persons. The injured persons were women wrestlers exercising on the road when the incident happened on June 29 early morning in Kondhwa.
The minor driver and the tanker owner, Mahindra Borate, were taken into police custody. According to the police, the accident happened around 6:30 AM in front of Kondhwa Ever Joy Society on NIBM Road.
