The aircraft, carrying 167 passengers, took off from Pune at 6:40 am on Sunday. About an hour and a half into the journey, while flying nearly 20,000 feet above ground, the pilot noticed reduced air pressure inside the cockpit. He immediately decided to turn the flight back towards Pune.

The aircraft re-entered Pune’s airspace around 7:30 am. However, instead of landing immediately, it was instructed to circle the city skies for almost 30 minutes before being cleared for landing. Finally, at 8:04 am, the plane touched down safely at Pune Airport.

A drop in cabin or cockpit air pressure can severely impact oxygen supply, making it difficult for pilots and crew to breathe. This can cause dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and even loss of consciousness if not handled quickly. To counter the situation, the pilot attempted to lower the aircraft’s altitude, as air pressure at around 8,000 feet remains stable and safer for breathing.

While all passengers were safe, the delay in granting landing permission despite a technical fault has sparked concerns. Authorities are expected to investigate the sequence of events and safety procedures at Pune Airport.
