Sports journalist Gargi Raut, representing RevSportz Global, has alleged harassment during celebrations of India’s T20 World Cup victory. On March 8, Raut shared a video clip from her live coverage showing a man in an India jersey appearing to touch her inappropriately amid the jubilant crowd.
In her social media post, Raut wrote, “If you put your hands on me inappropriately, I will put your face on the internet,” tagging the Ahmedabad Police and emphasizing that reporters should be able to work without fear. Her post quickly garnered widespread attention, with many expressing support and urging authorities to take action.
However, some commentators questioned whether the contact was unintentional, given the throngs of fans celebrating India’s emphatic 96-run win over New Zealand, which secured the country’s third T20 World Cup title. Sanju Samson’s explosive 89-run innings had powered the victory, sending fans into streets and stadiums across the nation.
The incident has reignited conversations about safety for journalists covering live sporting events, especially during large-scale public celebrations. Ahmedabad Police have yet to release an official statement regarding the complaint, while discussions on social media continue over the balance between exuberant celebrations and respecting personal boundaries.
