Pune university to fill 111 professor positions within a month.
Minister stresses improving academics and funding.
Coordinated student engagement crucial for reputation.
Pune, 30 September 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University has improved its global ranking but declined in national ratings, partly due to faculty shortages. The university has been waiting for approval to hire 111 professors, but Minister Chandrakant Patil assured that the recruitment process will be completed within a month despite regulatory challenges.
Patil spoke at the 126th convocation of the university in Pune, attended by officials including Dr. Anil Sahasrabuddhe, Dr. Suresh Gosavi, Dr. Parag Kalakar, Dr. Jyoti Bhakre, and Dr. Prabhakar Desai. During the ceremony, students received their degree certificates and gold medals.
The minister stressed the importance of academic quality in attracting and retaining international students. He highlighted the need for prompt faculty appointments, better funding, and collaboration with corporate social responsibility programs to strengthen the university’s infrastructure and reputation.
Patil also emphasized the role of coordinated student engagement, constructive handling of protests, and careful management of the university’s public perception to maintain its credibility and appeal both nationally and globally.
