Pune, 29 July 2025: In a major employment-oriented move, the Maharashtra state government is preparing to launch its own app-based transport service, offering rickshaws, taxis, and e-bikes through a centralized platform. The initiative, developed with the support of the Transport Department, is expected to generate large-scale job opportunities for youth across the state, with Pune playing a central role in the rollout.
The proposed names for the app include Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatri, and Maha-Go. Final approval for the project is expected soon from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Once approved, the app will be launched as a government-backed alternative to private transport aggregators.
The app is being developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Institute for Transport Technology and a public agency named Mitra, alongside private tech partners. Officials confirmed that discussions are underway to ensure that the platform is transparent, efficient, and aligned with central government aggregator guidelines.
Currently, the app’s regulatory framework is in its final stages. The government believes it has the infrastructure, manpower, and technology needed to manage and operate the platform effectively. By doing so, it aims to not only benefit passengers with reliable services but also empower drivers with better earning opportunities.
This transport initiative is expected to help lakhs of unemployed youth, especially in urban centres like Pune, become self-reliant. The government also hopes that this app will serve as a direct counter to the dominance of private cab and rickshaw operators, offering a more accessible and regulated service to both passengers and drivers.
