Pune: The Swargate rape case, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted inside a MSRTC bus at the Swargate ST Depot, has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra. The accused, Dattatray Gade (36), has been arrested, but fresh developments in the case have prompted police to broaden the scope of their investigation.
According to sources, after the crime was committed, Gade switched off his mobile phone. Investigators suspect that he may have hidden the device in a field in Shirur taluka, near Pune.
A police team is currently conducting a search operation in the area to recover it. Authorities believe the mobile phone could provide crucial evidence, as Gade may have contacted certain individuals after the crime. Investigators are particularly looking into call records and communication logs to trace who he spoke to and what was discussed.
Police Probe Bank and Digital Records
A new twist in the case emerged after Gade’s lawyer claimed that the encounter was consensual and involved a financial transaction. In response, police have begun scrutinizing his bank accounts, digital payment records, and other financial transactions.
Investigators are trying to determine:
Whether Gade transferred money to the victim.
Whether there were any other financial dealings related to the case.
If there are additional individuals involved.
