Tathawade Engineering Student Suicide: Messages and Recordings Reveal Harassment by Classmate

Pune: A third-year engineering student from Akurdi, Sahithi Kalugotala Reddy (20), died by suicide in Pune’s Tathawade area after allegedly being harassed by a classmate. The police have arrested Pranav Rajendra Dongre in connection with the case and remanded him to three days of police custody. The incident occurred when Sahithi jumped from the 15th floor of a building, allegedly due to prolonged mental and physical harassment.

How the Truth Came to Light

Initially, the police recorded it as an accidental death. However, during the investigation, crucial evidence emerged. Sahithi had left multiple recordings and messages on her mobile phone, some of which she had shared with her close friends before taking the extreme step.

In these recordings, she detailed the harassment she faced. She also informed her friends where she had kept her mobile phone and even shared its password. After her passing, her friends relayed this information to her father, Kalugotala Venkata Siva Reddy (54).

He then approached the Wakad police station and provided them with this evidence. Following this, the police launched a detailed inquiry, verified the evidence, and registered a case against Pranav Dongre for abetment of suicide.
