Lucknow: The town of Jalalabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district has been officially renamed ‘Parshurampuri’. The decision was approved on Monday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Speaking to reporters, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak confirmed that the state cabinet has approved renaming Jalalabad town as ‘Parshurampuri’.
He noted that residents had long been calling for the renaming of Jalalabad town in Shahjahanpur district, arguing that because it is the birthplace of Lord Parshuram, it should be named Parshurampuri.UP cabinet minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that Jalalabad, now renamed Parashurampuri, is widely regarded as the birthplace of Lord Parashuram and that the new name is therefore a fitting tribute to his legacy and to the town’s residents.
Significantly, the proposal was placed before the Union Cabinet last year and received its approval. Union Minister Jitin Prasada, who hails from Shahjahanpur, praised the move, describing it as a “moment of pride for the Sanatani community.” Besides renaming Jalalabad town, Yogi cabinet also approved 28 significant proposals.
Suresh Kumar Khanna told newsmen that the state government approved Uttar Pradesh Startup Policy-2026 and the formation of Uttar Pradesh Startup Mission to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.
The mission’s steering committee, to be established under the Societies Registration Act, will be headed by the Chief Secretary. To bolster the startup ecosystem, the government has allocated a ₹1,000 crore startup fund, along with support for prototype development and seed capital, as well as yearly grants for incubators.
