Pune: A delegation of fisheries farmers from Uttarakhand visited Shive village in Khed Taluka, Pune district, to study modern fish farming techniques and cooperative management. The team comprised 13 farmers and two officials from Uttarakhand’s fisheries sector.

As part of the visit, the delegation closely examined the Adivasi Western Region Fisheries Cooperative Society's operations. Dnyaneshwar Salunke, President of the cooperative, provided an overview of fishery management, operational strategies, and government schemes. The team also participated in a live demonstration of fishing techniques and industry best practices.

The study tour was guided by key officials, including Dheeraj Singh from Uttarakhand’s Cooperative Department and Kotkar Sir from Pune’s Assistant Registrar Office. Kiran Waghmare, Assistant Fisheries Development Officer from Junnar, shared insights into Maharashtra’s fisheries sector and its developments.

According to Uttarakhand government officials, each year, two progressive fish farmers from every district are selected for such study tours across India. The entire tour is sponsored by the Uttarakhand government, enabling farmers to adopt new fish farming techniques and enhance productivity.

The event saw the presence of local leaders and officials, including Shive village Sarpanch Akshay Shivekar, Society President Shivaji Shivekar, Gram Panchayat Officer Ulhas Korde, Vice President Sulabai Borkar, and Secretary Dattatraya Gawde.

The cooperative society extended its gratitude to Regional Commissioner Vijay Shikhare, Assistant Commissioner Archana Shinde, and Assistant Registrar Sudhir Khambayat for selecting their institution for this knowledge-sharing initiative.
