Vaikunth Crematorium Incident: PMC Issues Show-Cause Notice to Contractor

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has refuted allegations that dogs took away parts of a corpse at the Vaikunth Crematorium in Navi Peth. Despite denying the claims, the PMC has issued a show-cause notice to the contractor responsible for maintaining the crematorium. The administration has also directed immediate actions to address hygiene and safety concerns in the crematorium area.

The controversy arose after a video circulated on social media showing dogs allegedly running away with parts of a corpse from the crematorium. The video caused significant public concern.

Following the incident, Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., accompanied by senior officials, conducted an inspection of the crematorium and stated that no such incident had occurred.

To prevent future issues, Prithviraj B.P. ordered that the contractor responsible for cleaning, funeral services, and maintenance submit an explanation for lapses.

He also issued instructions to ensure regular cleanliness, prune hazardous tree branches, and ban feeding stray dogs within the crematorium premises.

The health department has already begun capturing stray dogs from the area to avoid any untoward incidents, and this action will continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain safety and cleanliness.
