Pune: The wrestling community mourns the untimely demise of Vikram Shivajirao Parkhi, a former Kumar Maharashtra Kesari, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest while working out at a gym.
The 30-year-old wrestler’s wedding was planned for December 12, but tragedy struck, leaving his family and fans in deep sorrow.
Hailing from Man village in Mulshi Taluka, Vikram Parkhi was a decorated wrestler who made his mark with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Kumar Maharashtra Kesari title.
His breakthrough came on November 28, 2014, when he won the championship at the “Maharashtra State Kumar Wrestling Championship 2014” held in Warje. Over the years, he secured several national medals and titles, showcasing his prowess in the wrestling ring.
At the international level, Vikram represented India in wrestling tournaments and was celebrated as a role model for aspiring wrestlers. Among his notable achievements, he clinched a bronze medal at the National Wrestling Championship in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
His victory at the Male Kesari competition brought the prestigious Male Kesari title and mace to Mulshi, elevating the status of his hometown in the wrestling world.
Vikram was known for his dedication, skill, and sportsmanship, often referred to as an ideal athlete in the wrestling community. He was mentored by Hind Kesari wrestler Amol Buchade, who played a crucial role in shaping Vikram’s wrestling career.
Vikram’s father, Shivajirao Parkhi, a retired soldier and Kargil War veteran, had instilled discipline and perseverance in him. Vikram’s sudden demise has left his family, including his parents, a married brother, and a sister, in mourning.
