No Confidence Motion

No Confidence Motion

Prime Minister Modi faces a no-confidence motion against his government, and though there’s little doubt he’ll confidently sail through it, still, a small portion of his mind might whisper, “After all I do for the nation, why do they do this to me?”

There are many of us who may not be as lucky as our Prime Minister and have had ‘no confidence’ motions turn out successful against our governing, our policies, or against what we thought right.

I remember as chairman of an organisation, I had sent notices to members, who had indulged in irregularities, after having spoken to them and finding them unmoved. The committee, instead of standing by me, voted and by a single vote, a ‘no confidence’ motion was successfully carried out. I was bewildered for a few days, wondering why no one recollected any of the good work done while I’d been on the chair, and then at that time, I hear shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”

My mind gets transported back two thousand years! I hear Jewish high priests carrying out a ‘no-confidence motion’ against a thirty-three-year young man. They know this young spiritual leader has healed the sick, opened the eyes of the blind, even raised people from the dead. They know his words are wise and insightful, but they turn to the people and ask for a vote of no confidence, and same people who’d seen his miracles, heard his words, shout again and again, “No confidence, no confidence!”

I watch with horror as the motion is passed, and the young Jesus is killed on a cross.

But, did what he stood for, spoke for, die?

No! Every word he said is remembered today, his death has brought salvation to billions, and finally, that motion of no confidence just made the world remember him even more.

I wonder how Winston Churchill felt when after blood, sweat and tears, he won the second world war for the battered British but lost the next general elections?

I wonder how husbands and wives who’ve sacrificed much, suddenly face a ‘no-confidence’ motion from a cheating partner or callous children?

I go back to the man on the cross, dying after the severe vote of no confidence, but instead of looking bitterly at his ‘no confidence’ voters, he cries, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do!”

Forgive whom? Those traitors?

Yes!

And to you who have faced the same, on boards, at home or at office, chew on these words, because therein lies the truth; that humans are so fickle, so weak, so shaky, so easily swayed, that it is a waste being bitter, and only a matter of time when all the good you’ve done returns to their minds.

So get your confidence back, remember, today, billions follow the Man who hung with a No Confidence motion on the cross..!  bobsbanter@gmail.com
