PUNE: A B3 land at Ghorpadi, in the jurisdiction of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), has been vacant for last 50 years and the government is not using it for any purpose nor collecting tax from it. Kiran Mantri, Ward Member of PCB has demanded that the land be used as a playground.

Mantri said, “The land is near Alexander Road at Ghorpadi and has been vacant for last 50 years. It was given on lease by the government, but it has not been maintained and it is very unhygienic. Also the Cantonment has not collected tax on it.”

“I have demanded the land under public interest. There is no playground in Pune Cantonment jurisdiction, and that is the main reason of demanding the vacant land,” he said.

In the recent general body meeting of Cantonment, Mantri demanded that the vacant land be used as a football ground. She said, “Since there is craze of football amongst the youngsters of Cantonment, this ground could help the youngsters develop their skills in this sport.”

DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PCB, said, “I have sent the proposal to the Ministry of Defence to get details of the land. If it has been given on lease, then we would look into the matter and try to make it a football ground.”
