20-year-old girl allegedly raped on pretext of marriage

Pune: A 20-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a person, who befriended her on Facebook. The girl was sexually abused over a period of 11 months on the pretext of marriage. A case in this regard was registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Krishna Kaate (23), a resident of Satara. The accused initially befriended the girl on Facebook in February 2017 and then, after acquiring her number, he used to communicate with her through WhatsApp.

According to Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, the accused befriended the girl and after communicating with her for a month, he proposed marriage to her. After gaining the girl’s confidence, he invited her to a lodge in Katraj and then allegedly raped her on the pretext of marriage.

Police said that the girl was repeatedly abused over a period of 11 months. However, when she questioned the accused about his promise of marriage, he assaulted her and threatened her with consequences.

After being fed up with repeated sexual and physical abuse, the girl approached the police and filed a complaint. 

Police have registered a case of rape against the accused, who has not been arrested yet.
