Pune: Over 25 shops located inside the Shivaji Market building in Pune were gutted in a massive fire that broke out on Tuesday morning, the Fire Brigade said. While fire officials took almost one-two hours to douse the flames, nobody was injured, it added.
While fire officials took almost two hours to douse the flames, nobody was injured. The fire started in one of the shops in the market around 4 am and was brought under control after one hour, the Fire Brigade said.
The blaze gutted, large stocks of meat in the Shivaji Market. After receiving information about the fire, as many as eight fire engines were rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control. The blaze has also charred corrugated boxes, stocks of packing material, electrical installations and wirings in the shopping area.
Shivaji Market is located in the Camp area of Pune. The iconic Shri Chatrapati Shivaji Market here, is serving residents, with fresh fruits, vegetables and meat over the years. There are over 270 shops in the market.
Prashant Ranpise, Pune’s Chief Fire Officer said, “We received the call at control room at 3.55 am. The fire tankers from nearby fire stations reached the spot. We used a total of nine tenders. The fire was brought under control at 4.30 am.” The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
