Pune, 26 September 2025: A 25-year-old man died after jumping from the 10th floor of Sassoon General Hospital’s new building early Thursday morning. The incident occurred while he was undergoing treatment in the orthopaedic ward.

The man had been admitted to the hospital by Pune railway police on September 5 after an accidental fall from a train, which caused serious injuries to his right leg. He was receiving surgery and medication for his injuries.

Hospital authorities said the patient was uncooperative and displayed aggressive behaviour, at times attempting to attack doctors and nurses. Dr. Yellapa Jadhav, medical superintendent at SGH, said he was not following treatment instructions.

On Thursday morning, nurses found that the patient was missing from the ward while administering medication. His body was later discovered behind the hospital building.

Senior Inspector Santosh Pandhare of the Bund Garden police said the man, reportedly from Solapur, was mentally disturbed. An accidental death case has been registered, and the incident has raised concerns about the supervision of mentally unstable patients at Sassoon General Hospital.
