PUNE: A total of 27 schools from Pune district have found a spot in the list after the first phase screening for affiliation to the Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB), said an official from the Maharashtra State Council for Educational Research and Training (MSCERT).

According to figures provided by the organisation, of over 4,000 schools that had applied for the affiliation, 455 from across the State have been filtered for further scrutiny in the first round.

“Later, there will be two to three more rounds of shortlisting, through which we will bring down the number to around 200 to 250 schools. These schools will go through a rigorous selection conference, after which the proposed number of 100 schools will be selected,” Vikas Garad, Deputy Director (Coordination) of MSCERT said.

Garad added, “Only schools with the true and maximum potential will make it to the final list of 100. One of the major factors to determine this would be how capable and willing the teachers are to put in that extra effort and dedicate a little extra time to make their school the best.”

The schools finally selected through the process will be called the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Schools. The schools will get a curriculum on par with international standards.

The maximum number of schools shortlisted in the first phase are from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation region, which are 77, followed by 29 from Parbhani district.

In a recent GR, the State government has allocated funds for the functioning of the Maharashtra International Education Board (MIEB) and have given authority to the board for its functioning.
