PUNE: The family members of late Marathi actor Anand Abhyankar, who had died in a road accident in 2012, were awarded compensation of Rs 72 lakh by the National Lok Adalat at the District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar on Saturday. His relatives had filed a case for compensation in 2014.

On December 23, 2012, Abhyankar (48) and actor Akshay Pendse (35) and his two-year-old son Pratyush Pendse died when a tempo hit their car on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Pendse’s wife Deepti had survived in the accident.

Later, Abhyankar’s mother Ashadevi, wife Anjali and children Sanika and Neeraj filed a claim for Rs one crore compensation before the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT).

Advocate Sandeepak Phadke, counsel for Abhyankar family, said, “We had filed the petition on July 18, 2014 against National Insurance Company. The hearing was going on in the court of Principal District and Sessions Judge SM Modak. Finally, the matter was settled in the Lok Adalat on Saturday.”

Pendse family has filed separate compensation claim application.

Abhyankar and Pendse were seen together in the roles of father and son in the television serial ‘Mala Sasu Havi’ on Zee Marathi. A familiar face in Borivali suburb of Mumbai where he lived, Abhyankar had also worked in several Hindi movies, advertising films, Marathi movies, serials and jingles.
