Akashvani celebrates World Radio Day with auto drivers

PUNE: It was an unusual day for around 150 rickshaw drivers when they got the opportunity to see the studios at Pune Akashvani on Tuesday. The amusement and the happiness in their eyes were vivid after the visit. Well, Pune Akashvani on the occasion of World Radio Day had organised a special programme for rickshaw drivers of the city.

“For the first time, such a programme was organised as we have found out that the majority of our listeners are autorickshaw drivers,” said the Chairman of Pune Akashvani Parivar and employee Ravindra Ranjekar.

“We had invited 10 autorickshaw associations and some 150 drivers attended the event wherein they got the opportunity to see the programme studio, how the programmes are conducted and the efforts that go behind making a radio programme. This was a window for them to understand radio and its working,” said Ranjekar.

Radio being one of the most powerful means of communication, every year, ‘World Radio Day’ is celebrated to enlighten the importance of radio in our lives and how one should appreciate its simplicity.

Five rickshaw drivers who have done great work for the society were felicitated by Gopal Auti, Programme Head and Deputy Director, Ashish Bhatnagar, Deputy Director (Engineering) and Ravindra Ranjekar, Chairman of Akashwani Pune on the occasion.
