Animals tortured in Kondhwa flat

Pune: An animal lover has complained to the Kondhwa police after some pet animals including two cats, a dog, two fishes and a turtle were allegedly locked inside a 2bhk flat for three days without food at Ganga Kingston society in Undri.

As per the complaint filed by Shubina Roy, the dog, a Saint Bernard was kept chained in a flat(A-203) without food and water. “The dog and two Persian cats were lying in an unhygienic condition in their poop.” the complaint stated.

Speaking to Sakal times Shubina said that she received information about the crying of animals as they were locked without food. “Further we found that the tenant who stayed in the flat had left, keeping the animals locked inside. The turtle was kept in muddy and greeny water. We then contacted the Kondhwa police and informed about the incident.” added Shubina who demanded that the animals should be immediately sent to foster care.

The security guards of the society informed that the flat was locked by police and the owner.

When Sakal times got in touch with the supervisor of the society he said that the police had accompanied the tenant on Sunday evening and the animals were fed by the tenant.

The secretary of the society who did not wish to be named said that a notice was served to the owner of the flat, Yogesh Wanve, about fifteen days ago after the tenants staying in the flat created ruckus in the flat.
“Following this the owner asked the tenant to leave. When they left they did not take their pets along with them” added the secretary.

On Monday morning, Shubina along with few others approached the Kondhwa police and demanded action against the tenant but were not entertained by the police. Following this, the complainant along with animal welfare activist Vineeta Vadhera, approached the commissioner and joint commissioner of police to direct the Kondhwa police to take necessary action in the case.

Speaking to Sakal Times Joint commissioner of police Ravindra Kadam said that he has asked the Kondhwa police to take immediate action in the case.

Vineeta told Sakal times that the tenant continues to torture the animals. Kondhwa police said that they have accepted the complaint and are looking into the case.
