Pune, 16 March 2026: A shocking incident has come to light in Pune’s Lonikand area where a 22-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide after being unable to bear harassment from her in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi Late, who lived with her husband in the Gokul Park area on Bakori Road.

According to police officials, Vaishnavi was found hanging in her house on the morning of March 14. The incident created panic in the neighbourhood after her death came to light.

In a complaint filed with the police, Vaishnavi’s mother alleged that the initial days after the marriage were normal, but later her husband, Yashwant Late, began verbally abusing and assaulting her. He allegedly pressured her repeatedly to bring money from her parental home.

The complaint also states that Vaishnavi’s mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law allegedly joined in demanding money and subjected her to continuous mental and physical harassment. Due to this ongoing pressure, Vaishnavi was reportedly under severe mental stress.

Unable to bear the alleged harassment, Vaishnavi ended her life by hanging herself in her home. After receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot, conducted a panchnama and sent the body for further examination.

Based on the complaint, Lonikand Police have registered a case against her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law. Further investigation is currently underway.

The incident has once again raised concerns about harassment faced by married women. Last year, a similar case shook Pune when Vaishnavi Hagawane allegedly died by suicide due to harassment from her in-laws, drawing attention to the recurring pattern of such tragedies.
