Applicants told to seek fresh appointments

PUNE: The server of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been down since four days, which has caused inconvenience to many applicants who had already gotten an appointment for RTO related works like the renewal of license, change of address, registration certificate (RC), etc, and were forced to cancel their previous appointments. They were asked to get fresh appointment, which has a waiting period of almost a month.

The portal in question is ‘www.Vahan.nic.in,’ which is used for all transport related works.

On Friday, the online payment option of many applicants failed and those who had an appointment in March were forced to cancel it.  According to the officials, the Vahan portal is handled from New Delhi and the server was down since Friday last week.

“The system Vahan 4.0 is for online payment. After completing various procedures, applicants could not complete the payment process. Thousands of applicants were waiting for hours. The server resumed on Monday afternoon, and everything is going smoothly,” said Vinod Sagre, Deputy RTO, Pune.

However, applicants faced problems on Tuesday as well. Many applicants, who finished payment procedures before the appointment, could not proceed further.

“I applied for learning license, all procedures are done except payment. I approached the RTO official and they said that it will take time. Since Friday, I have been coming to RTO. They are saying after completion of payment procedures, I have to come for learning license test. On Tuesday, I was unable to pay as my application number was not accepted. I have to go again through the entire process and to get a fresh appointment,” said Sunil Mane, an applicant who was present at RTO on Tuesday.
