Pune, 7th May 2026: The revered Bhimashankar Temple will reopen for devotees from May 31 after remaining closed for redevelopment work since January 9.

Bhimashankar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India, had been shut to carry out major infrastructure and safety upgrades under a special development plan approved by the Maharashtra government.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the work is in its final stage and devotees will now get a smoother and better-organized darshan experience. The administration has focused on improving crowd management, safety measures, and basic facilities for pilgrims visiting the temple.

As part of the redevelopment project, a new and spacious sabhamandap has been constructed while the old structure has been removed. The project also includes upgraded stairways, improved entry and exit routes, better crowd-control systems, designated darshan pathways, and resting areas for visitors.

Officials said nearly 90 percent of the work has already been completed using traditional construction techniques to preserve the temple’s heritage character. The remaining finishing work is expected to be completed before the reopening date.

The redevelopment has also been planned keeping in mind the expected increase in pilgrim footfall during the 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela. Authorities believe the upgraded facilities will help provide a safer, more convenient, and well-managed experience for devotees in the coming years.
